THE BASICS
NAME: Lydia Deetz
CANON: Beetlejuice: The Musical
AGE: 17
DOB: Unknown
HEIGHT / WEIGHT: 5'3" / Average
OCCUPATION: Teenager.
PERSONALITY:
Lydia is a very headstrong, feisty and smart young woman who shows great reasiliance when dealing with the paranormal. Not only does she react to seeing demons and ghosts with a very calm demeanour but she keeps her cool when it comes to dealing with them, particularly Beetlejuice himself.
Lydia's mother Emily apparently had a fondness for the paranormal and supernatural. Lydia recounts warmly how they used to make haunted houses in the garage in seasons other than Halloween. It's likely due to this that Lyia herself reacts to spirits with little fear.
For much of the musical Lydia is fixated on not simply missing her mother but likewise getting her back once she learns the woman might be somewhere in the Netherworld. When she ends up unable to find her Lydia ends up facing what scares her the most -- forgetting her mother. She does deeply miss her but as she tells her father her biggest fear is eventually forgetting her because she never gets to talk about her.
ABILITIES & HISTORY:
GHOST SIGHT: Lydia's main ability is that she can see and communicate with ghosts and demons. In a departure from the movies musical Lydia seems to be able to see demons and ghosts from the beginning. She doesn't get to read The Guidebook for the Recently Deceased until late in the musical and she can't even open it herself -- only one of the recently deceased can.

APPEARANCE
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
AURAL:
Sophia Anne Caruso portrayed Lydia during the March 2019 to March 2020 run of the Broadway show. Elizabeth Teeter was Lydia from April 2022 to January 2023. Most of my icons are Elizabeth Teeter but I might end up with Sophia here and there in time.
This is Sophia Anne Caruso singing Dead Mom and Elizabeth Teeter singing Dead Mom.
DEMEANOUR:
Lydia immediately strikes one as a real firecracker of a person. She enjoys a good bit of heavy sarcasm and has a very morbid sort of look overall. That said Lydia is also a very lonely person inside, deciding by the end of the musical that she wants to live life and connect with the people around her in her family more.
OLFACTORY:
Lydia has a preference for darker, musky perfumes with notes of deep florals. Think Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs, haha.
VISUAL:
Frankly Lydia's sense of style in this iteration of the canon is still very much old fashioned 80's goth. She doesn't do the teased hair but she still does the lace, the fishnet and boots along with the black dress and gloves. There's also a bit of industrial goth / punk thrown in with the safety pins.
